Professor Ekanem obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at the University of Ghana, Legon. After a brief Civil Service career in the government of the former Eastern Nigeria, Professor Ekanem left Nigeria for advanced degree studies at Howard University, Washington DC, where he obtained MA in Economics. He later studied at the George Washington University, Washington DC where he obtained M. Phil; and Ph. D. in Economics. Professor Ekanem has extensive professional experience in Government and the Private sector in Nigeria and United States of America. He commenced his academic career in 1987 at the Howard University where he rose from the rank of Assistant Professor to Full Professor. He has extensive publishing experience in reputable International Journals, such as American Economic Review, Urban Studies, Applied Economics in London, Journal of Economics and Management Studies in South Africa and the Journal of Economics and Social Studies, Nigeria. His publications span a broad spectrum of public policy issues, such as Housing, Transportation, Trade, Privatization, Entrepreneurial Development and Small Enterprises Management. He is currently Coordinator, Entrepreneurial Development Center at the Institute of Management & General Studies, Akwa Ibom State University of Technology. Professor Ekanem, who is 2001-2002 Fulbright Scholar commenced his Entrepreneurial Development Research career with his Fulbright Research program in 2002.
